The Radio Play Adaptation of It's a Wonderful Life

A lover of ballet, Nadia Larysa studies the dance by taking classes and attending live ballet performances. Nadia Larysa also enjoys live theater, especially around the holidays.

Every year at Christmastime, theaters across the country offer performances of It's a Wonderful Life. The play became a holiday tradition following the popularity of the 1946 film of the same name directed by Frank Capra. Theater companies perform a variety of adaptions, including radio broadcasts for the stage.

One popular adaptation sets the play in a radio station during the 1940s. Although the play employs creative staging, the story remains close to the film.

In a version written by Joe Landry titled It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play, five actors perform all the parts with support from sound effects. The actors hold the scripts in their hands and speak into microphones. The “radio” show even includes commercial breaks for a life insurance company and an airline.
